Steven Dix born 1970 (Lismore, Australia)
Youngest of 4 children, while Steven's eldest brothers were enrolled at traditional state schools, Steven and sister Suzanne were enrolled at the controversial Gabbinbar State Primary School. "Gabbinbar was a new school with teaching areas designed for innovative practices such as open-area teaching and with students drawn from a population which was more professionally oriented and with some students whose histories in their former schools suggested behavioural or social or psychological problems. Added to this was a school Principal who was passionate in his educational beliefs but who challenged more conservative principals less willing to be innovators." (Ken Imison)
For the most part, Steven grew up within a more industrial environment only a breath away from Toowoomba's Yeast factory, Rail links, Tennis Centre and Base Hospital. Raised by his single mother Daphne from 1978, boredom was all the budget of the 70's and 80's could afford, driving Steven into the arts where he created his own world, at times transforming his own bedroom into a world of art with spiderweb ceilings and wall to wall pop art.
He indulged in painting, music, model art and craftwork to escape the drudgery of the outside world.
Steven has been an innovator and creator all his life. Remarkably using his abilities in most disciplines to earn a living from his talent. Steven has successfully combined artistic abilities with financial stability marrying digital art and a career in the music industry. Being a full time artist has always been a reality with the recent embrace of other disciplines in a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Theatre at Griffith University (2005). Steven's energy for the creative has taken in work the entertainment industry through a number of expressions from painting, set design, CD artwork, music writing and producing, photography, motion pictures, acting, theatre, websites and more....

Steven Phillip Dix (16 February 1970)
An abstract painter and creative. Noted for his earthy, stressed, textured and rustic abstract works of Brisbane and Australian landscapes both man made and natural.
Steven Dix: born in Lismore, Australia. The youngest son of Robert Phillip and Daphne Dix, a photographer and a nurse both having strong creative heritage in the music and art culture of Brisbane, which he was exposed to from an early age.
1975 Gabbinbar State Primary School and several years in various choirs including the Toowoomba Choral Society were decisive in forming young Dix's ambition to be a creative artist.
1982 Senior Certificate (grad. 1987) Centenary Heights State High School, Toowoomba, QLD. Dix failed art in year 12.
1987 Dix began his working career for a major retailer in his hometown, as trainee manager and retail sales, Dept. supervisor Myer Store Toowoomba. After years of retail launched into the arts study in music and art moving to Brisbane in 1991 to follow his passion for the creative arts supported by wife Elizabeth . At this time he worked both as Creative Director and Editor for a new arts magazine called 'CAM' and played guitar touring live and recording with several projects until 1994 when he created and formalized his own creative agency called Seattle Design working for and with record labels and artists up until 1996 when he moved to Victoria, Australia.
In the small seaside town of Torquay, Dix spent 2 years working as chief creative with a small record company and writing and recording his own solo album titled Restless. Although Torquay was creatively perhaps the most inspiring season in his life to date: finding opportunities were limited in the work environment both moved back to Brisbane to spend several years living from under houses and stretching every boundary to make ends meet.
2001 Dix joined with music entrepreneur Dale Bray to Co-found and create Sonfest music festival. A massive undertaking both creatively and logistically. This period Dix worked with Platinum Entertainment EMI CMG/PROVIDENT ZOMBA Creative director and Editor of CRASH Magazine.
2002 Dix worked on set for MIRIMAX films ‘The Great Raid’ and ‘Peter Pan’ which flowed into his 2003 Bachelor of Arts in Applied Theatre majoring in Music. 2006 he fights off Cancer and endures Chemotherapy, Establishes the Steven Dix website for art and continues his work as creative director at boutique creative agency Edge Creative.
